An open letter to Mitt Romney

Can I make a suggestion for your VP pick, please? I have read that you are looking at, (or at least there are some folks acting interested) in the position that are current state governors. I recognize that picking a popular governor brings in that state's votes and that is a valid interest. I think I have a better idea.

This country has been picked to pieces outside our shores under Barry's ship of state and I believe your candidacy can be significantly improved if we bring in a VP that not only has respected foreign experience but would also be recognized as a conservative in this country. And truth be told, you need a little more conservative bones with the Republicans. You can score the women's vote and steal a portion of the African-American vote from the current administration by following this simple advice-

Pick Condolezza Rice as your VP candidate. You won't be sorry. She would make the you a shoe-in into the White House, bring more Republicans into the House & Senate and restore the United State's honor around the world.

Trust me on this one. Really.

Explain this to me...

Here at Wasted Electrons World Headquarters, the BSU and I have had numerous conversations about the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman headlines and stories that have flooded the news media for the past couple weeks. Myself, I think the story hasn't all been disclosed and that eventually the story will be told and those race-baiting activists will seek out another camera to get their face in front of. I'm apalled at the outrage over 1 unfortunate circumstance that turns into a national outrage and especially disgusted by the calls for Mr. Zimmerman's arrest, alive or dead by the New Black Panther Party.

But here's the rub for me- aren't all lives precious and worthy of outrage when taken too soon? Even those people that choose hoodies as their method of keeping warm? If that's true, and it is true for me, then why has Barry not gone public and said one of the people listed in this story would look like his son, if he had a son? Will the president say about this murder in his adopted hometown "All of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves." Could the lack of concern by the president, this congress critter who represents the wounded, killed and the shooters, be indicitive of the real agendas of the officials? Would the story of dead and injured young people in Chicago be different if they weren't (presumably) all the same color?

Somehow I doubt it.

I especially find the activism of the likes of Al Sharpton, (aawk, spit!) calling out George Zimmerman as a white man killing a black youth as ridiculous since Mr. Zimmerman is as equally a white man as is the current president. And nobody thinks he's a white man, right?

UPDATE: Since so much of this story revolves around Trayvon Martin wearing a hoodie and there have been hoodie rallies around the country and even worn on the floor of the house of Congress this week, (see link above), maybe we all need to review a Homeland Security public awareness video describing terrorists wearing hoodies.

Thoughts on the Occupy movement...

Tonight at dinner, the BSU tried to take the side of all the hippie, whiner, crybabies that have made so many headlines lately. She was in support of them expressing their civil disobedience by putting up tent cities anywhere they wanted on public ground since they had as much right to be in the public space as anyone else. She suggested that large gatherings had the right to disregard the laws governing use of public spaces to make their points be heard and to get their wrongs righted.

So I asked her if it would be ok for the organizer of the the major gun shows that come to this area to take over a local park to hold a huge gun show instead of them having to pay rental space at the expo center. She of course thought this was a terrible idea and suggested that there were gun laws in effect that would prohibit doing something like that. But I asked if wouldn't it be ok if the organizer and the participants thought that those rules were wrong and needed to be changed? Maybe as a protest to the rules, gun sellers and buyers gathered in a public space to transact business and act peaceably and responsibly while intentionally breaking the law.

She assured me this was an "apples and oranges" comparison So I asked if the Farmer's Market gang, thse folks that sell produce and jewelry and other similar stuff could take over a park and keep it open to their shops and wares for indefinite periods of time instead of the few hours a week that they presently are allowed to use the parks. Did they have to comply with the rules issued by the affected city or could they just skip the rules and stay open as long and as often as they chose? Could one of the local taco vendor carts put up a tent and live and stay in the park because he disagreed with the local ordinances that govern his business?

The BSU got rather testy with me and told me I was just talking to hear myself talk and she wouldn't continue with the conversation. I thought I was just using her examples of the Occupy Movement and applying it to a couple other scenarios for her to consider but apparently breaking the rules only applies to some people, not everyone.

I kinda think open air gun shows in a public park seem like a good idea. Maybe not this time of year but during warm weather it might work. And I bet I can guarantee you that if something like that ever occurred, that there wouldn't be trash and garbage and violence against anyone like these smelly, hippy freaks of the current Occupy movement.

President Obama can kiss my carbon footprint!

So yesterday was Earth Day and Barry found it neccesary to issue a 2 page statement to highlight our country's efforts and needs to save the planet- all while burning 53,000 gallons of jet fuel plus gasoline for a 30 car motorcade during a 3 day fund raising trip.

Barry needs to shut the hell up about us common folk trading in our full sized vehicles for better mileage compacts! If he wants to prove he is serious about preserving the planet and America's demand for fuel, he needs to install one of those high tech big screens in his office that he was whining about not having last week and implement his fund raising through online conferencing!

Show us that you're serious Mr. President and stay home! Do your fund raising over the internet with video conference technology and I'll begin to believe you are serious about saving the planet! Until then, just be quiet!

Dear Mr. President...

After reading your State of the union speech from earlier this week, I am compelled to write this 1 suggestion for you- shut the hell up about high speed rail! I grant you that certain European and Asian countries have nifty high speed rail systems but most of those countries are no bigger than many of our states. No citizen of my acquaintance has any interest in traveling by rail and I live in a town made famous by our country's first rail boom. Heck my spousal unit has even traveled from Ogden to Portland Oregon by AMTRAK years back but nobody is interested in doing so now! BTW, how's that AMTRAK business working out, making a profit on that enterprise yet?

Here's my suggestion Mr. President; drop high speed rail from your vocabulary. Leave it to a state or private company to institute should they desire and don't spend another dime of my tax dollars on any federal high speed rail development. If you want a signature project to spend money on and that will leave a legacy behind, spend those billions of dollars you want to spend for rail projects to find a cure for cancer! Or find a cure for Alzheimers, or autism, something that will really matter!

You can spend my tax dollars for those issues, not high speed rail!

Al Gore says something I can agree with...

This morning I discovered that former V.P., wanna-be savior of the planet & Nobel prize laureate Owlgore is actually able to learn new things and admit that some of his Save Mother Gaia ideas were mistakes. Using corn for fuel fer instance: "First generation ethanol I think was a mistake. The energy conversion ratios are at best very small."

And if you were ever uncertain that politics did NOT play a crucial role in his save-the-planet lofty words of wisdom, there's this quote:
One of the reasons I made that mistake is that I paid particular attention to the farmers in my home state of Tennessee, and I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president."
Emphasis is mine.

The Spill, The Scandal and the President

I have stayed out of the political blogging business for quite some time now mostly just because there are so many better bloggers out there that you could be reading that my efforts wouldn't add anything to the conversation.

That said, I cannot not share this Rolling Stone article concerning the terrible oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the administrations failure to get control of the circumstance going on down there. The article very neatly and concisely pulls in a great deal of information and spells out a timeline of the actions of BP, the president and his staff. It will take you a bit of time to read it but it's worth your time so check it out.

On a related note, and not addressed in the Rolling Stone article because it has surfaced since the article was published, is the story of the miles of oil collection boom that BP won't purchase and the Coast Guard Commandant claims he didn't know about even though he was given a formal letter by 2 US Senators back on May 21. Make sure to read the 2nd page of that article because it quotes the .fedgov's National Oil and Hazardous Substance Pollution Contingency Plan that directs the president to take every action to mitigate damages. This plan does not say that the company responsible for the leak has the clean up responisbility, it says the president must take action!

The Rolling Stone article makes it very clear that the president has not done everything he should have done, and the things he promised he would do if elected, at every turn of this story.

From my cold, dead hands-

Seems that Barry is sucking up even more of the "save the planet's helpless creatures" Kool-Aid and listening to some agencies determined to make certain no animal need feel threatened by the 2-legged animal at the top of the food chain. This time he is listening to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration about restricting or prohibiting fishing- perhaps even recreational fishing, to save the planet. You can read all about it here. Some of the highlights:
Led by NOAA's Jane Lubchenco, the task force has shown no overt dislike of recreational angling, but its indifference to the economic, social and biological value of the sport has been deafening.

Additionally, Lubchenco and others in the administration have close ties to environmental groups who would like nothing better than to ban recreational angling. And evidence suggests that these organizations have been the engine behind the task force since before Obama issued a memo creating it last June.

As ESPN previously reported, WWF, Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group and others produced a document entitled "Transition Green" shortly after Obama was elected in 2008. What has happened since suggests that the task force has been in lockstep with that position paper.

Then in late summer, just after he created the task force, these groups produced "Recommendations for the Adoption and Implementation of an Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes National Policy." This document makes repeated references to "overfishing," but doesn't once reference recreational angling, its importance, and its benefits, both to participants and the resource.

Additionally, some of these same organizations have revealed their anti-fishing bias by playing fast and loose with "facts," in attempts to ban tackle containing lead in the United States and Canada.

That same tunnel vision, in which recreational angling and commercial fishing are indiscriminately lumped together as harmful to the resource, has persisted with the task force, despite protests by the angling industry.

As always- read the whole thing.

And Barry- you can have my fishing poles when you pry them from my cold, dead fingers!

A solution for Barry and Arnold

So Barry's in trouble and needs to find a way to live up to his campaign promise to close Guantanamo prison and move out the foreign terrorists held there. It seems that he is having trouble getting the rest of America, including his Democratic senators to go along with his scheme, since they announced this week that they would not provide the necessary funding for the project. And since the voters on California turned down all the tax increase proposals on this week's ballot, Arnold continues to have a budget shortfall of mammoth proportions.

I have a proposal for both of these guys. Arnold wants to sell San Quentin prison- for some much needed cash and Barry needs a place to house prisoners. I suggest that the .fedgov purchase the fabled prison from the state of California and park the prisoners there. That would enable Barry to meet his 1 year deadline for closing the camp in Cuba and provide some much needed cash for Arnold's budget.

Problems solved for both guys. It's a win-win solution all around. I'm certain that the kinder-gentler population of Nancy Pelosi's district would not only welcome these hapless, unfortunate individuals caught up in the illegal invasion of their homelands with open arms but also be appreciative of the new jobs created by housing and feeding these folks. Maybe the Code Pink chapter in San Francisco could bake organic cookies and bring them out to the prison regularly to make these prisoner's stay in California a little more comfortable.

There's no need to thank me, I'm just trying to do my part as a good citizen to help out where I see the opportunity.

Dear FBI, I am that subversive element-

Browsing around the interweb this morning with a fresh pot of coffee to keep me warm, I discovered what is going on In Jennifer's Head, thanks to Tamara. You can click the link to read the whole thing and find the background documents but I'm reproducing Jennifer's statement here:
Dear FBI agent,

First of all, welcome to my little corner of the internet. Let me save you a little time and effort and let you know that yes, I do in fact fit the definition of a right-wing extremist. I believe life is precious, including that that has not yet been born. I believe in God and the freedom to worship as I please. I believe free people should have the right to defend themselves against any threat, including that of a tyrannical government. I believe people should be entitled only to that which they earn. I believe the federal government should be limited to matters of interstate commerce and national defense. I do not believe the leader of this nation should ever bow down to anyone, least of all the leader of a hostile nation.

I am not racist. I don’t care what consenting adults do behind closed doors. (The answer to this question is no, it will not cause a civil war.) I am not using the economy to brain-wash nor indoctrinate. I am pleased that people are beginning to wake up. We don’t need a nanny state. We don’t need more bureaucracy. We need the government to get out of the way so we can pursue our own happiness.

The only pork I like is edible, not spendable. (Although the value of bacon does seem far more stable than the dollar these days.)

I think Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, John Hancock, and Ronald Reagan were great. I wish we had more men like them in power today. I did not vote for our current president and plan to vote against his party in the next congressional election. I prefer tea to kool-aid, but I’m really a coffee drinker.

I have no intention of turning my guns in even if you offer to buy them back. They were never yours in the first place, so how can you possibly buy them back? I want only to be a citizen of this great nation and have no intention of being a subject of anyone.

I don’t watch Fox, and they did not astro-turf this movement. The people are tired of being spent into debt far beyond what can be repaid. The first thing you must do when you find yourself in a hole, is stop digging. When you find yourself in a recession, stop spending.

I brought 2 people to the last tea party with me. July 4th, it will be more. We’ll smile for your cameras. If you bring pictures from the last one, I’ll even sign them for you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer
Because what she said is exactly how I feel about the subject too. So there, Mr. FBI Agent!

A Modern Parable

And it came to pass in the Age of Insanity that the people of the land called America, having lost their morals, their initiative, and their will to defend their liberties, chose as their Supreme Leader that person known as The One. He emerged from the vapors with a message that had no meaning; but He hypnotized the people telling them, "I am sent to save you. My lack of experience, my questionable ethics, my monstrous ego, and my association with evil doers are of no consequence. For I shall save you with Hope and Change Go, therefore, and proclaim throughout the land that he who preceded me is evil, that he has defiled the nation, and that all he has built must be destroyed.

And the people rejoiced. For even though they knew not what The One would do, He had promised that it was good; and they believed.

And The One said "We live in the greatest country in the world. Help me change everything about it!&

And the people said, "Hallelujah!! Change is good!

Then He said, "We are going to tax the rich fat-cats,"

And the people said "Sock it to them!&---- and redistribute their wealth.

And the people said, "Show us the money!&"

And then He said, "Redistribution of wealth is good for everybody

And Joe the plumber asked, "Are you kidding me? You're going to steal my money and give it to the deadbeats??"

And The One ridiculed and taunted him, and Joe's personal records were hacked and publicized.

One lone reporter asked, "Isn't that Marxist policy?"

Then a citizen asked, "With no foreign relations experience and having zero military experience or knowledge, how will you deal with radical terrorists?

And The One said, "Simple. I shall sit with them and talk with them and show them how nice we really are; and they will forget that they ever wanted to kill us all!

And the people said, "Hallelujah!! We are safe at last, and we can beat our weapons into free cars for the people!"

Then The One said, "I shall give 95% of you lower taxes.

And one, lone voice said, "But 40% of us don't pay ANY taxes."

So The One said, "Then I shall give you some of the taxes the fat-cats pay!

And the people said, "Hallelujah!! Show us the money!"

Then The One said, "I shall tax your Capital Gains when you sell your homes!

And the people yawned and the slumping housing market collapsed.

And He said, "I shall mandate employer- funded health care for EVERY worker and raise the minimum wage. And I shall give every person unlimited healthcare and medicine and transportation to the clinics."

And the people said, "Gimme some of that!"

Then he said, "I shall penalize employers who ship jobs overseas."

And the people said, "Where's my rebate check?"

Then The One said, "I shall bankrupt the coal industry and electricity rates will skyrocket!"

And the people said, "Coal is dirty, coal is evil, no more coal! But we don't care for that part about higher electric rates."

So The One said, "Not to worry. If your rebate isn't enough to cover your expenses, we shall bail you out. Just sign up with ACORN and your troubles are over!

Then He said, "Illegal immigrants feel scorned and slighted. Let's grant them amnesty, Social Security, free education, free lunches, free medical care, bi-lingual signs and guaranteed housing..."

And the people said, "Hallelujah!!" And they made him King!

And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy sank like unto a rock dropped from a cliff. The banking industry was destroyed. Manufacturing slowed to a crawl. And more of the people were without a means of support.

Then The One said, "I am the The One - The Messiah - and I'm here to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have enough!"

But our foreign trading partners said unto Him, "Wait a minute. Your dollar is not worth a pile of camel dung! You will have to pay more..."

And the people said, "Wait a minute. That is unfair!!"

And the world said, "Neither are these other idiotic programs you have embraced. Lo, you have become a Socialist state and a second-rate power. Now you shall play by our rules!"

And the people cried out, "Alas, alas!! What have we done?

But yea verily, it was too late. The people set upon The One and spat upon him and stoned him, and his name was dung. And the once mighty nation was no more; and the once proud people were without sustenance or shelter or hope. And the Change The One had given them was as like unto a poison that had destroyed them and like a whirlwind that consumed all that they had built.

And the people beat their chests in despair and cried out in anguish, "Give us back our nation and our pride and our hope!!" But it was too late, and their homeland was no more.

From an email I received from my Dad.

James Gregory talks about the government...

Got 18 minutes to get schooled on what is wron with our government? Sure you do. Go listen to James Gregory, live on The Big Show. It's an education you won't get from the MSM. Really.

Go listen to it. My brother Tim turned me on to it tonight.
